R. Brooks Hanson serves as a top editor for Science, the weekly journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In his role as deputy managing editor for the physical sciences, Hanson supervises the recruitment and management of all scholarly articles within this broad area. He supervises more than a dozen staff members to ensure timely coverage of all biological developments, both as original research and commentary in the Compass section. He works closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor to develop and implement policies and procedural changes. He interacts with scientists around the world to stay abreast of current developments and recruit research and review papers. Hanson earned a B.S. from Bucknell University and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles. His areas of interest include geology, geophysics, geochemistry, planetary science, hydrology, paleontology, anthropology, archaeology, numerical modeling, science policy, social sciences. Specifically, Hanson can discuss current dinosaur research, space studies, and earthquake science, among other topics.
