Barbara Jasny serves as the Deputy Editor for Commentary for Science, the weekly journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In this position, she coordinates the activities of Editors responsible for the Perspectives, Letters, and Book Reviews sections of the magazine and coordinates the Policy Forum section. She also solicits research papers and evaluates research reports for publication in genetics, medicine, and the social sciences. She has taken the lead in special issues on the genome project, AIDS, molecular medicine, and science & society for the past 20 years. Jasny has a B.A. with honors in Biology from New York University, a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Rockefeller University, and has conducted research in viral pathogenesis, DNA replication, and cellular senescence. She is an elected fellow of AAAS and an author on nearly 50 articles and commentaries dealing with science, society, and scientific advances.
