Jo Ellen Roseman

Jo Ellen Roseman

Jo Ellen Roseman is the director for Project 2061 of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is responsible for overseeing all of the project's programs and activities in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and research. She directs a national center for teaching and learning, which focuses on developing leaders in research, development and implementation of science curriculum materials, and a national IERI study, which examines the relationships among teaching, learning, and professional development in mathematics. In her previous positions as Project 2061's associate and curriculum directors, Roseman was involved in the design, testing, and dissemination of the project's science literacy reform tools. She participated in the development of Benchmarks for Science Literacy, which describes specific K-12 learning goals on the way to science literacy, and directed the development of Resources for Science Literacy: Professional Development, which helps educators focus curriculum, instruction, assessment and their own professional development on science literacy. More recently, she directed and oversaw the completion of Project 2061's middle and high school science textbook evaluations and developing the new reform tool, Atlas of Science Literacy, Volume 2. Prior to joining Project 2061, Roseman was involved in scientific research and teaching at Johns Hopkins University, where she designed and directed two graduate degree programs for secondary science teachers and prospective teachers, and the National Institutes of Health, where her doctoral studies in biochemistry and research explored the regulation of intracellular protein turnover and provided strong evidence that oxidative modification may be a significant mechanism in signaling cellular destruction of proteins. Roseman received degrees from the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Johns Hopkins University.
