Virginia W. Stern directs the Project on Science, Technology and Disability at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She has expertise in science and engineering education for students with disabilities at all levels. Her work encompasses internships and cooperative education opportunities with industry and the U.S. government, accessible campuses and laboratories, inclusion of persons with disabilities in community-based organizations, accessible science centers and art museums, and family and community support systems. Stern has served on the advisory boards of government agencies and NGOs, including the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, and the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. She also has spoken on the subject of university programs to include students with disabilities at both U.S. and overseas universities, including University of Salford, UK, and University of Padua, Italy. She received her B.A. in History and Humanities at Stanford University and her M.A. in Deaf Education at Gallaudet University.
