Bruce Wright, current director of Conservation Science Institute, is best known for his work on the Exxon Valdez oil spill. As chief of the NOAA Office of Oil Spill Damage Assessment and Restoration, he directed a science program and was spokesman for the U.S. and Alaska governments' research and recovery efforts. He was seen on numerous television programs (60 Minutes, Discovery News, etc.) and all major U.S. and European newspapers. Much of Wright's work has focused on top terrestrial and marine predators. While with NOAA he organized and directed research teams for the Alaska Predator Ecosystem Experiment and the Alaska Shark Assessment Program. Wright developed and taught wildlife correspondence courses at the University of Alaska, courses on predators: bald eagles, bears, and whales. He was honored with the Conservation Education Outstanding Achievement Award for 1998 for the bald eagle courses. He was the chairman of the board of the directors of the Bald Eagle Research Institute. Wright was Alaska's Governor Knowles' science adviser on the Pew Ocean Commission and other oceans issues. In 2000 he was selected as host scientist for Alaska for the JASON XIII: Frozen Worlds. He has written of numerous science publications, the latest being The Ecology and Conservation of Alaska's Predators.
