Jim Hickey
A 23-year veteran of ABC News, Jim Hickey has been an anchor and a correspondent for ABC News Radio since 1995. He currently is the National Correspondent for the ABC Radio Network and was the principle anchor for ABC News for Kids on the Radio Disney network. Mr. Hickey was in the anchor chair for ABC News Radio's special coverage of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, and as National Correspondent has reported extensively on the war on terrorism. ABC News Radio won a National Headliner Award for the 9/11 coverage. ABC News Radio also won an Edward R. Murrow Award for its coverage of the dramatic rescue of nine trapped coal miners in Pennsylvania for which Mr. Hickey was the principal reporter.
Prior to joining ABC News Radio, Mr. Hickey was a foreign correspondent for the ABC Television Network from 1980 to 1995. For ten of those years, he covered worldwide news events from his assignments in Germany, South Africa and Italy.
Mr. Hickey has covered such stories as the fall of the Soviet Union, the end of apartheid and the release from prison of Nelson Mandela, the death of Princess Diana from Paris and London, the impeachment of President Clinton in Washington, the Elian Gonzalez saga in Miami, the millennium celebration from Rome, Pope John Paul's historic visit to Cuba and the Florida vote recount in Palm Beach County. Mr. Hickey's contributions have resulted in several Edward R. Murrow and United Nations Awards. Recently, Mr. Hickey was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree in Public Service by his alma mater, Western Michigan University. He is on advisory boards for the Communication Departments at WMU and at Monmouth University in New Jersey.
Jim Hickey currently resides with his wife, Dr. Marcia Clever, in Holmdel, New Jersey.
