David McAlary

David McAlary

David McAlary is a science correspondent for the Voice of America (www.voanews.com), the U.S. government's global broadcasting arm. His beat covers the gamut of the medical and physical sciences and the environment. Before becoming a science writer, he served VOA as a producer and anchor for its English newscasts, a news documentary writer, and White House correspondent. He has been with VOA since 1975.

Mr. McAlary's radio career began in high school in his native western Massachusetts in 1964 and took him to radio stations in Boston, San Antonio, Texas, and Davenport, Iowa. A tour in the U.S. Armed Forces Radio and Television Service during the Vietnam War brought his voice and face to military audiences in Thailand and South Korea.

He holds a Masters Degree in International Public Policy from The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (1987), an M.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University (1974), and a B.S. in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University (1969).
