AAAS Science Journalism Awards

2003 JUDGES

David Baron

David Baron

David Baron has reported on science, medicine, technology, and the environment for National Public Radio for more than fifteen years. His work has received numerous honors, including, on three occasions, the annual journalism award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Baron's radio reports have aired worldwide on programs of the Australian, British, and Canadian Broadcasting Corporations, he has written for the Boston Globe and Outside, and he has produced TV reports for CNN. He is the author of The Beast in the Garden (W. W. Norton, November 2003), which explores the growing conflict between people and large predators as mountain lions, wolves, and bears infiltrate America's suburbs while the nation's suburbs sprawl into wildlife habitat. A summa cum laude graduate of Yale University, Baron has served as a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT and a Ted Scripps Fellow in Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado.
