Gifts of Life Insurance
For a relatively small sum in premium payments, donors can provide significant future benefit for AAAS by making gifts using life insurance policies.
When a donor makes an outright gift of life insurance, AAAS is named the owner and beneficiary of the policy—either an existing policy or a new one. In addition to creating a meaningful and important legacy, supporting AAAS through a gift of life insurance can provide significant income and estate tax benefits to you. There are many points that should be considered in planning a life insurance gift and we recommend that you consult your tax advisor regarding the tax implications.
If you would like more information about making a gift of life insurance to AAAS, contact Juli Staiano, Director of Development. Please also let us know if you wish to support a particular program or create a new fund or endowment through your gift so that we can ensure that your explicit intentions can be carried out. In some cases, we may prepare a Memorandum of Understanding articulating what the gift will support and how it will be administered.
Donors who notify us of their intention to make a gift of life insurance are highlighted as members of our 1848 Society, recognizing individuals who provide for AAAS through their wills or other charitable plans.
There are a number of different types of planned and deferred gifts, some of which are outlined below:
