Commemorative Gifts
Commemorating a special person with a gift to AAAS can be tremendously satisfying. A commemorative gift is a lasting tribute to a friend, colleague, or loved one and provides valuable support to further the work of AAAS.
A gift "in honor of" someone usually is made while that person is living, often for milestone occasions such as a promotion, birthday, or retirement. A gift "in memory of" someone is the term used when the namesake is deceased. Both are referred to as commemorative.
There are many ways to make a commemorative gift. All the financial strategies of planned giving apply, or you may choose to make an outright gift. As with all gifts to AAAS, you may designate the program for which your gift is to support or you may choose to purchase a commemorative plaque to be installed on a chair within the AAAS headquarters' auditorium. Additional recognition opportunities within the AAAS headquarters also are available.
