Successful candidate will manage the review, selection, and editing of manuscripts pertaining to the physical sciences including astronomy, astrophysics and/or the Earth and planetary sciences. The process includes judging subject value with respect to others in its field, determining which manuscripts warrant review, and selecting reviewers; discuss review with reviewer to determine what additional information is needed from author; work closely with author to incorporate reviewer's suggestions; present recommendations to other editors in an effort to reach consensus on acceptance or rejection of manuscript; edit manuscripts for scientific content and style before and after revisions; follow manuscript through production process to ensure material is published in a timely manner; foster contacts and communication with the scientific community through literature reviews, meetings and professional contacts; solicit manuscripts from authors at scientific community meetings or over the phone; perform other work related duties as assigned. This position is for either our Washington, DC or Cambridge, UK offices.

Qualifications: Position requires mastery of a professional field typically acquired through completion of a Doctoral degree (Earth and Space Sciences); 3-5 years experience including post doctoral research experience in a broad variety of scientific research topics including astronomy and astrophysics and/or the Earth and planetary sciences; breadth of knowledge of cutting-edge research in these and related fields including multiple publications is highly desired; comprehensive knowledge of scientific research methods in order to discuss technical issues with authors; excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate with authors and reviewers in evaluating, editing and modifying manuscripts.
