Successful candidate will manage the review, selection, and editing of manuscripts pertaining to one of the following fields: biomedical sciences (including neuroscience), systems biology, bioinformatics, computational or mathematical biology, organismal biology (zoology) behavior. The process includes judging subject value with respect to others in its field, determining which manuscripts warrant review, and selecting reviewers; discussing review with reviewer to determine what additional information is needed from author; working closely with author to incorporate reviewer's suggestions; presenting recommendations to other editors in an effort to reach consensus on acceptance or rejection of manuscript; editing manuscripts for scientific content and style before and after revisions; following manuscript through production process to ensure material is published in a timely manner; fostering contacts and communication with the scientific community through literature reviews, meetings and professional contacts; soliciting manuscripts from authors at scientific community meetings or over the phone; performing other work related duties as assigned. This position is located in Washington, DC USA or Cambridge, UK.
Qualifications: Position requires mastery of a professional field typically acquired through completion of a Doctoral in one of the fields mentioned below; 3-5 years experience including post doctoral research experience and multiple publications; scientists with broad interests, a lively curiosity, and experience with cutting-edge research in one of the following fields: biomedical sciences (including neuroscience), systems biology, bioinformatics, computational or mathematical biology, organismal biology (zoology) behavior; comprehensive knowledge of scientific research methods in order to discuss technical issues with authors; exceptional communication and listening skills; previous editorial experience is not necessary, but evidence of an aptitude for the communication of science would be advantageous.
