Geospatial Technologies and Human Rights
The AAAS Science and Human Rights Program is developing applications of geospatial technologies for human rights organizations. AAAS is seeking a Full Time and/or Part Time Temporary staff to support geospatial data acquisition, processing, and analysis within the context of human rights issues. Successful candidate will assist in development of internal and public information resources covering a range of project activities and work directly with project director and colleagues in human rights organizations and geospatial companies around the world. This is either a full-time, temporary position (40 hrs./wk.), or a part-time, temporary position (16-24 hrs./wk.) anticipated to extend through 1 May, 2007 (extension of the position beyond 5/1/2007 will be determined at a later date based on performance and funding considerations). The position pays $10-17/hr depending on qualifications.
Specific tasks:
- Help develop geospatial information products in response to needs of human rights organizations;
- Research availability of remotely sensed data, especially high-resolution imagery, and other data;
- Organize and maintain geospatial databases;
- Analyze high-resolution imagery and other data for indicators of human rights violations, and;
- Research and prepare briefing papers on multiple issues pertaining to human rights and geospatial technology applications.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have nearly completed their undergraduate education (MA preferred) in geography or related discipline and possess extensive skills and experience with remote sensing image processing and geographic information systems; candidate should be highly proficient in geographic information systems (ArcView) and image analysis programs (ERDAS or ENVI), with excellent research and writing skills, and ideally a broad range of information technology skills.
