This volunteer internship opportunity is designed so that college-level students can use their education and training in the field of information technology/computer science to gain real-world job experience through work on special projects and studies focused on the development of web-based science education resources. This volunteer internship can be full-time or part-time, and students may be able to earn college credit depending on the requirements of their college or university.
Project 2061 is a long-term initiative of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world and publisher of magazine. The goal of AAAS Project 2061 is to help all Americans become literate in science, mathematics, and technology. To achieve that goal, Project 2061 conducts research and develops print and online tools and services that educators, researchers, and policymakers can use to make critical and lasting improvements in the nation’s education system.

What the Job Involves
The Project 2061 Web Development intern will join the regular staff in Washington, D.C.d, and devote most of his or her time to one or more of three distinct and high-priority projects including (1) the design of an online course for science teachers based on an existing face-to-face workshop, (2) the development of online teaching resources based on weather and climate data collected by NASA and NOAA, and (3) the redesign of the AAAS Project 2061 web site with a focus on making better use of social media. The intern will also have opportunities to interact with other professionals at AAAS and to participate in a variety of events focused on all areas of science and technology.
