On 20 September 1848, the first meeting of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science welcomed
87 members of the nascent American scientific community.
Today,
120,000 AAAS members and weekly subscribers and 262
affiliated organizations in 130 countries participate
in the largest interdisciplinary scientific and engineering
society in the world, working to advance science for
the benefit of all people.
The Associations peer-reviewed weekly publication, Science, which was founded by Thomas Edison, is among the worlds most prestigious and most cited science journals.
