The AAAS Poster Sessions provide the opportunity for individuals to present their research and offer an excellent venue for extended informal discussion with meeting attendees.
All posters will be peer-reviewed. Accepted posters will be listed in the 2008 AAAS Annual Meeting Poster Book. Abstracts will appear on the Annual Meeting Abstract CD in the Program Book.

The Student Poster Competition recognizes the individual efforts of students actively working toward a college-level degree. Postdoctoral scholars who hold a doctoral degree are not eligible to enter.

General Description of Student Poster Competition Categories:

Brain and Behavior includes neuroscience and psychology.

Environment and Ecology includes agriculture, food, and renewable resources; geology and geography; and atmospheric and hydrospheric sciences.

Math, Technology, and Engineering includes statistics, computers, information technology, and industrial science.

Medicine and Public Health includes dentistry and oral health sciences, medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

Molecular and Cellular includes organismic life sciences and biological and chemical sciences.

Physical Sciences includes astronomy, physics, and chemistry.

Social Sciences includes education, language and culture, anthropology, economics, and political sciences.

Science in Society includes societal impacts of science and engineering, general interest in science and engineering, history and philosophy of science, public understanding of science.
All poster submitters (except for AJAS and Student Session Aides) are required to register for the Annual Meeting in a paid registration category. You must have a valid Visa, MasterCard, or American Express account number to register online.
Register online or print out a registration form after you have submitted your abstract. Registration must be paid by 1 November 2007 to be included in the Poster Book. To participate in the Poster Session, registration must be paid by 18 January 2008.
NOTE: AJAS students must register through AJAS/NAAS.
The Joshua E. Neimark Memorial Travel Assistance Endowment
The Joshua E. Neimark Memorial Travel Assistance Endowment provides a limited number of grants to support travel for accepted poster presenters to the AAAS Meeting. Any graduate students or post doctoral candidates submitting a poster may apply for the grant, however only those individuals whose posters are accepted will be considered.

For students applying as Session Aides, the Student Session Aide application may be submitted in lieu of paying registration fees (subject to space availability in the Student Session Aide program). You must be a college undergraduate or graduate student to apply as a Student Session Aide. AAAS reserves the right to rescind registration for anyone found not to meet the criteria for being a Student Session Aide.

2007 Annual Meeting
Individuals may present, and be senior or presenting author, for only one poster per day. All posters must be confined to the 4'x 8' display board provided. Computer display equipment, sound or projection equipment, or freestanding displays are not permitted.
Bring your own push-pins or Velcro to affix your poster material to the display board. All material must be removable. You may not write, paint, or use paste on the display board.
All posters must be set up in the time allotted before the session, and must remain up until the session ends. Materials must then be removed promptly from the board and your area cleaned up. AAAS will not be responsible for material left on boards after any of the poster sessions.
Student Poster Competition Entrants:
You will be required to be present for a designated three-hour judging period. Assignments will be sent to all accepted entrants in December.

Allow ample time to prepare your poster. Use a crisp, clean design and a strong title. Do not tell the entire research history. Present only enough data to support your conclusions and show the originality of the work. The best posters display a succinct statement of major conclusions at the beginning, followed by supporting text in later segments and a brief summary at the end.

For ease of transport, make poster elements small enough to package and carry (approximately 17" x 22" / 42.5 cm x 55 cm). Be sure to pack a measuring tape, push pins or Velcro, and a sketch of the poster layout so you will be prepared to set up the poster quickly.

All posters should feature a title, your name, the name of the institution where the research was performed, and should credit others, as appropriate. The title lettering should be about 2" to 3" (5 cm to 7.5 cm) with subheadings 1/2" to 1" high (1.25 to 2.5 cm).

All lettering should be legible from about 5 feet (1.5 m) away. Text material should be approximately 24 points (1/4"/.625 cm).

Poster elements should be mounted with an adhesive on 1/8" (.313 cm) foam-core board. Boards thicker than this will be difficult to pin up.

Convert tabular material to graphic display, if possible.

Use color to add emphasis and clarity.
-
Make illustrations simple and bold. Enlarge photos to show pertinent details clearly.

Displayed materials should be self-explanatory, freeing you for discussion.

Handouts of your Poster abstracts should be available for interested viewers.

No demonstration experiments or three-dimensional displays are allowed in a poster session.
