The database of AAAS member and Science reader responses to the AAAS/Science 2004 Life-Sciences Salary and Career Survey and the search engine created to access the information are proprietary to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
The search of the database is available only for your personal and individual use. This information may not be used for any commercial purposes. It is unlawful for anyone, member or not, to publish or distribute commercially results found through the use of this salary survey search engine.
Technical Note on Statistics
The total database consists of over 7,000 responses from life scientists in the United States and is reliable within plus or minus 1 percentage point at the 95% confidence level. Subgroups based on smaller sample sizes are less reliable. All analysis assumes no systematic response bias between respondents and non-respondents.
You may find small differences between the statistics reported in the Science article of September 17 and the statistics generated through use of this database. Where that happens, the cause could be one or all of the following:
- The statistics reported through use of the search engine are averages (means) whereas the data reported in the Science article are medians.
- The statistics reported in Science are based on weighted data. At this time, weights are not applied to the searchable database.
- Also, the reports generated through this web site are dynamic and may report slightly different data than the article in Science as we continue to refine the database and application.
