House Passes Farm Bill Extension

Last week the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to extend the comprehensive Farm Bill through the end of January 2014.  Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), however, stated that they would not vote on an extension. The House and Senate conference committee failed to resolve differences before the end of the year, and despite a lack of unanimity on extending the bill into early next year, the chairs of both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees have stated that they are very close to a final agreement and expect passage in early January when they return to start the second session.
