125th Anniversary of the Founding of Science

Celebrate with Science and AAAS

With financial backing from iconic inventor Thomas Alva Edison, journalist John Michels published the first issue of Science on 3 July 1880. In its 12 pages were articles on the possibility of electric-powered railroads, the latest observations of the Pleiades and advice to science teachers on the importance of studying animal brains. The world has come a long way since then, and so has Science. This year, AAAS and Science marked the journal's 125th anniversary with a series of special features and events that drew inspiration from the past while looking boldly to the future.
