AAAS offers plain-language insight, based on the latest science, in a Q&A on climate change.
What is AAAS Doing to Help?
The AAAS Communicating Science program helps scientists and engineers to effectively convey the science behind global climate change. AAAS and its journal Science also provide objective, authoritative scientific information to help inform the public, and to guide science policy decisions.
In February 2009, the AAAS Annual Meeting highlighted environmental issues, particularly during a plenary lecture by former U.S. vice president Al Gore.
In February 2007, AAAS organized a town hall-style meeting to highlight the human impacts of climate change, and to showcase science- and technology-based strategies for confronting the issue. Video and presentation material can be viewed online.
AAAS also works with educators to promote climate literacy, and develops useful resources, some of which are listed below.
AAAS op-ed articles help to explain the scientific evidence related to climate change. In December 2009, for example, the AAAS CEO's op-ed in the Washington Post responded to an essay by former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
