Researchers from any country in the Americas will have until 15 May to apply for a scholarship to study in a national park. Sponsored by Canon U.S.A., Inc., the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the US National Park Service, the Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program exists thanks to a commitment on the part of Canon U.S.A., Inc. In 2003, the program will award eight US$78,000 scholarships to Ph.D. students throughout the Americas to conduct research critical to conserving the national parks of the region.

Research projects in the biological, physical, social and cultural sciences are eligible, as are projects in a new category—technology innovation in support of conservation science.

For more information about the Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program and a copy of the Application guide, see the following URL: www.nature.nps.gov/canonscholarships.
