At EuroScience 2004, AAAS Chief International Officer Sherburne Abbott handled interviews with reporters such as Andreas Sentker, science editor for Die Zeit, a leading German newspaper. "The EuroScience conference provided AAAS with an opportunity to help with the launch of an important initiative," Abbott said later. "The first forum was a strong start. In the end, these events may provide the U.S. scientific community with a valuable mechanism for improving broad, trans-Atlantic, interdisciplinary collaboration, beyond individual scientific disciplines and beyond national, bilateral groups."
