Slide Show — AAAS at EuroScience Open Forum, 2004

<< Back Next >>

The EuroScience plenary lecture by Shirley Malcom, director of Education & Human Resources at AAAS, explored European and U.S. interest in science and science literacy. "It is clear," she said, "that much of what we are doing on both sides of the Atlantic is falling short of our ambitions in terms of reaching the public, grabbing their attention and providing them with quality information." But, efforts such as a recent AAAS-UNESCO science education conference; the association's Kinetic City Super Crew program; the APEC Youth Science Fair that took place in July 2004 are helping to bring the excitement of science to children, and especially women and underrepresented groups.
