Take Your Science to Go With the New Science Mobile App

AAAS and Science have launched Science Mobile, a free app for mobile devices that delivers content from Science’s family of journals, the daily news service ScienceNOW, and job resources from Science Careers.

Science Mobile users can read abstracts of research articles from Science, Science Translational Medicine, and Science Signaling., as well as summaries of the stories in Science’s weekly News section. The app also offers the full free text for Science’s “This Week in Science” summaries, the editorial page, and the monthly issue of AAAS News & Notes..

The app is now available at the Apple iTunes store for Apple iPhones (the 3G or later versions only) and the Apple iPod Touch. The app is also available for Android phones at the Android Marketplace.

“Amazingly, 3800 people found the app just by searching in iTunes before the official launch” on 24 September, said Will Collins, director of Science’s Web and New Media projects. One day after the launch, Collins noted, the app “was ranked No. 4 in the top free iPhone News apps. That’s impressive when you consider that there are over 250,000 apps in the iTunes store.”

Other features of Science Mobile include:

• The latest news from ScienceNow, updated daily;

• A searchable job database and articles on career advice and perspectives from Science Careers; and

• Full access to the Science weekly podcast.

Users can also e-mail links to the full text of research articles, and they can store content for later reading without Wi-Fi access. Individual and institutional subscribers may also click through to the full text of journal articles.
