News From the 2011 World Science Forum

The 5th World Science Forum brought more than 500 science and policy leaders from 105 countries to Budapest, Hungary, from 17-19 November for presentations and talks under the theme: “The Changing Landscape of Science: Challenges and Opportunities.” The topics ranged from population growth and food security to brain research and nurturing young scientists, but most of the presentations also featured a strong element on international cooperation in addressing challenges. The biennial Forum is organized and hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with support from UNESCO; the International Council for Science (ICSU); the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS); the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC); and AAAS.

A Crucial Step Toward Global Science

At the World Science Forum in Budapest, leaders from AAAS and around the world urged nations to align their science standards and practices to aid international cooperation.

AAAS CEO Alan I. Leshner, at the opening of the World Science Forum in Budapest, said nations should align their S&T standards and values to aid global S&T collaboration.

AAAS, TWAS Agree to Science and Diplomacy Effort

Two influential science organizations signed a formal agreement to collaborate on projects in global science and diplomacy, including a science ambassadors program.
