White House Advisers Weigh in on Big Data

A working group appointed by the President and led by Counselor to the President John Podesta has released its report entitled, Big Data: Seizing Opportunities, Preserving Values.  The report is the product of a 90-day study focused on the intersection of big data and privacy, to examine “how big data will transform the way we live and work and alter the relationships between government, citizens, businesses, and consumers.”  The report concludes with policy recommendations, including recommendations for legislative action.

At the same time, the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, PCAST, has released a complementary report, Big Data: A Technological Perspective, which details the technical aspects of big data and privacy, and similarly provides policy recommendations.
