The Center engages science and scientists with many communities, including those of government, religion, and law. We promote responsible conduct of, and advise on investment in, scientific research. Together, we advance the appropriate role of science in the service of society.
The Center of Science, Policy, and Society Programs has three advisory committees. Members for each of the committees are appointed by the AAAS Board of Directors.
Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy (COSEPP)
The AAAS Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy is appointed by the Association's Board of Directors. The purpose of the Committee is to foster improved policy making on issues involving science and technology.
Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility (CSFR)
The Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility was established in 1976 by AAAS and advises on issues related to human rights, freedom of scientific inquiry, and the professional responsibilities of scientists and engineers.
National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists (NCLS)
The National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists was established in 1974 as a joint committee of AAAS and the American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Science and Technology Law.
