Reports from CAIP Affiliates: Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science
The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) is the premier multidisciplinary scientific body in Sri Lanka with over 2,500 members from all scientific disciplines. Its membership is grouped under seven sections namely, Section A: Medical, Dental and Veterinary Sciences; Section B: Agricultural Sciences and Forestry; Section C: Engineering, Surveying and Architecture; Section D: Life and Earth Sciences; Section E1: Physical Sciences; Section E2: Chemical Sciences; Section F: Social Sciences. The key event of the Association is the annual scientific sessions held towards the end of the calendar year. It is generally held on a University campus and the venue has been rotating among different University campuses in recent times. During 2005, the Sixty-first Annual Session will be held at the Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala, Nugegoda from December 12 to 17. The focal theme for this year’s sessions will be “Development Oriented Multidisciplinary Research: An Urgent Need.” The inauguration of the session will be held in the afternoon of Monday, December 12th at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. A seminar on the theme will be held on Tuesday, December 13th. Other events would include the presentation of scientific papers, sectional seminars and scientific exhibitions.
