In Touch With Series
As part of the AAAS Science Linkages in the Community (SLIC) Initiative, these activity books offer a range of hands-on activities for students in grades K-12 for use in a variety of formal and informal settings, from classrooms to community groups. In Touch with Magnetism: In both Spanish and English, this book provides hands-on activities focusing on nine topics for middle school students. Activities include exploring magnetic fields, strength of magnets, finding north, and creating electromagnets. In Touch with Community Service Learning: A Guide to Hands-on Science: Packed with activities derived from other science and mathematics books and manuals, this guide is designed to be used with students in school, community, and home settings. Each activity begins with “Suggestions for Leaders,” helping adult leaders, teachers, parents, or young-adult mentors decide which activities are age-appropriate, as well as the optimum group size, and the time to allow for the activity. Nearly all of the activities utilize inexpensive, easily obtainable materials. The activities were selected to foster problem-solving skills through data collection and analysis.
