Center for Science, Technology, & Security Policy
The Center for Science, Technology and Security Policy seeks interns interested in the field of science and security policy. CSTSP activities include international arms control and nonproliferation, laboratory or facility safety and security, research ethics, cooperative bioengagement, domestic biosecurity issues. Topics CSTSP cover include nuclear, bio, chemical, cyber, space, energy, and environmental security. Regions or countries in which CSTSP works include the Middle East, North Africa, and Uzbekistan.
CSTSP internships offer graduate and undergraduate students a unique opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience in national and international security, particularly as it relates to science. The duration of the internship is four to six months long, depending on availability. Scheduling is flexible, but an intern is expected to work at least 25 hours per week.
Who Should Apply
Candidates should have a Strong interest in national and international science and security issues; Solid written/verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; Superior attention to detail, ability to manage several projects at once; and Strong computer skills, including experience with the MS Office Suite and internet research. Graduate students with undergraduate studies in science field preferred, but others are invited to apply as well.
What the Job Involves
The internship includes, but is not limited to, the following duties: Monitor legislation, Executive branch policies, and international activities related to science and security issues; Participate in CSTSP program activities and work on CSTSP projects; Attend relevant events, meetings, and Congressional hearings; Participate in meetings of the biosecurity policy community; Assist in drafting policy briefs, proposals, or project reports
