About the AAAS Archives
The AAAS Archives are open to all researchers interested in the history of the Association and its role in the development of science. In 1983, AAAS began to preserve its archives and the professional papers of its staff for their administrative and research value. The Archives hold administrative records generated by its membership and program activities, as well as for the journal Science. The majority of records held within the Archives begin after World War II, with a smaller number covering earlier periods.
- AAAS Archives Policy , adopted by the AAAS Board of Directors in June 1982.
To visit the Archives, please contact the archivist at least 48 hours before you plan to arrive at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com . Researchers requesting restricted records will be asked to speak with appropriate program staff to obtain permission.
A large portion of AAAS records are held off-site and require 24 hour notice for delivery. For this reason, speaking with the archivist before you arrive will ensure that your visit is as productive as possible. The archivist can provide some finding aids and other guides to help you choose records to request.
Researchers may make photocopies of materials held by the AAAS Archives for .25 cents per page.
When citing primary documents found in the AAAS Archives, please attribute them appropriately. For example: Minutes of the [AAAS] Committee on Policy, 29 December 1907, AAAS Archives.
The AAAS Archives are located at AAAS headquarters, 1200 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20005. Entry to the Archives is by appointment only. AAAS is located one block north of the 12th and G Streets exit for the Metro Center subway stop. If traveling by car, 2-hour metered street parking is available. Garage parking in the area can be difficult to obtain.
