New Horizons in Polar Science

[PHOTOGRAPH] The northern lights

30 October 2007

New and exciting science in the Polar Regions has broad implications for society, in areas such as climate change, energy policy and sustainability. Polar research incorporates a range of disciplines, from biology to physics to anthropology and economics, underscoring society's dependence on a broad array of scientific approaches to best understand the Polar Regions. In recognition of the Fourth International Polar Year, and the fact that polar climate is changing rapidly, this seminar focuses on emerging scientific opportunities and on anticipated infrastructure and resource needs for the next generation of polar research.
