The Science Inside Alcohol Project, funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), is developing an interactive, Web-based science and health curriculum for middle school students and their families on how alcohol affects their bodies. The project, which is part of the highly regarded “The Science Inside” series from AAAS, will also provide a plain language booklet for parents. It has three core goals: |
 The Project is developing a week-long, Web-based education module to help students learn how the human body functions as a chemical system. Students participate in activities that simulate blood alcohol levels. |
 Middle school students are fascinated with how their bodies work. Through this project and their increased understanding of how alcohol affects them, we hope young teens will make better informed choices about when to begin drinking. |
 The curriculum will teach chemistry by examining alcohol as a chemical, biology by explaining how alcohol affects different parts of the body, and neuroscience by sharing research about how alcohol affects adult and adolescent brains differently.
