Turkish Microbiological Society

Turkish Microbiological Society was founded in 1931 to promote microbiological research, and to organize lectures, symposia, congresses and courses on microbiology. Two conferences are held bi-annually: the National Congress of Microbiology and the National Congress of Infection. The Turkish Microbological Society publishes two journals: The Turk Mikrobiyoloji Cemiyeti Dergisi (Journal of Turkish Microbiological Society) (quarterly) and Infeksiyoh Dergisi (Journal of Infection) (quarterly). The Society gives high priority to international relations. It is a member of FEMS (Federation of European Microbiological Societies), IFIC (International Federation of Infection Control) and FESCI (Federation of European Societies of Chemotherapy, Infection). The Turkish Microbiological Society organized the 11th ECCMID (European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) with 5,500 participants. In 2004, the Society organized the national Congress of Microbiology and the national Symposium of Mycobacteriology. The Society has already started the preparations for international scientific meetings which will be organized in 2005.
