PERSONALIZED MEDICINE Planning for the Future
Overall Project Description
AAAS, in partnership with the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI), is convening three two-day colloquia on personalized medicine. The first colloquia was held June 1-2, 2009 and the second was held October 26-27, 2009 at AAAS headquarters in Washington, DC. The third in the series will be held March 8-9, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ. The colloquia will address the scientific discoveries, business models, and regulatory changes that are necessary to develop new personalized treatments and their companion diagnostics. Other sessions will focus on electronic health records, reimbursement, education of patients and their care givers, and ethical, legal, and policy issues such as privacy, patients’ responsibilities for their own health, and direct to consumer testing, among others. The series follows a successful program on personalized medicine that AAAS and FDLI convened in June 2008.
