August 12 - Updated online tutorial on the federal budget

This tutorial is adapted from an "Introduction to the Federal Budget" seminar presented by Kei Koizumi, Director of the R&D Budget and Policy Program, to various audiences. The tutorial, updated with FY 2009 information, is designed to introduce audiences to the U.S. federal budget process, especially as it relates to federal R&D funding.

The Future of Research & Development in the Midwest: Trends and Indicators

The AAAS R&D Budget and Policy Program, in cooperation with the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC; a constortium of twelve research universities) released a report on The Future of Research & Development in the Midwest: Trends and Indicators (pre-publication PDF copy) on June 27 at a conference on "Developing a Regional View of the Midwest Economy" in Minneapolis. The report, relying on National Science Foundation (NSF) data, presents and analyzes the impact of federal R&D funding on seven Midwestern states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin).
