Philip S. Guzelian, MD, is Professor of Medicine, Head of the Section
of Medical Toxicology, and Co-Head of the Hepatobiliary Research
Center in the Divisions of Gastroenterology and Clinical Pharmacology
at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
From 1982 until 1992, he was Chairman of the Division of Clinical
Toxicology and Environmental Medicine and Professor of Medicine
and Pharmacology in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology
at the Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia
in Richmond.
Dr. Guzelian obtained his BA degree in 1963 and his MD degree
in 1967, both from the University of Wisconsin.
He is a member of a number of professional organizations, including:
the American Federation of Clinical Research, the American Association
for the Study of Liver Disease, the Southern Society for Clinical
Investigation, the American Society for Clinical Investigation,
the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the
American Gastroenterological Association, the Society of Toxicology,
the Association of American Physicians, the Academy of Toxicological
Sciences, and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental
Therapeutics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology,
and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Guzelian's honors and awards include the Wisconsin Foundation
Scholarship Award, Alpha Omega Alpha (Wisconsin Medical School),
the NIH Clinical Investigator Award in Gastroenterology, the NIH
Research Career Development Award, and the Burroughs-Wellcome Toxicology
Scholar Award.
