Court Appointed Scientific Experts Project: A Demonstration Project of the AAAS


Honorable Barbara Jacobs Rothstein
Professional Standards Subcommittee
Judge Barbara Jacobs Rothstein is Director of the Federal Judicial Center and a United States District Court Judge for the Western District of Washington. She was appointed in 1980 and served as chief judge of that district from 1987-1994. She was in private practice in Boston, 1966-68; Assistant Attorney General, State of Washington, 1968-77; Judge, Superior Court, King County, Washington, 1977-80.

She has served on the faculty at the Law School of the University of Washington 1975-77; the Hastings Institute of Trial Advocacy, 1977; the Northwest Institute of Trial Advocacy, 1979; and has been a member of the state-federal committee of the U.S. Judicial Conference, and chair of the subcommittee on health reform. She received her legal degree from Harvard University.
