Climate Change:
From Scientific Knowledge to Policy Development

Friday, January 11, 2008
12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m.
The Gold Room (Rayburn 2168)

Congress is examining legislative proposals that address various aspects of climate change, with vast amounts of information circulating on the effects of these proposals on the environment and economy. This workshop will provide tools that can assist policymakers in deciphering the scientific information contained in these proposals and determining what science can and cannot contribute to the discussion.

The two-hour lunch event that is open to the public will feature a panel of leading scientific and policy experts giving short presentations. Ample time will be reserved for questions and discussion. Topics and speakers include:

  • Climate Change and Scientific Consensus
Michael Oppenheimer, Princeton University Presentation (PDF)

  • Science and Public Policy: The View from the Lab
Stephen Schneider, Stanford University Presentation (PDF)

  • Science and Public Policy: The View from the Hill
    David Goldston, Princeton University

  • The Road Ahead
Ralph Cicerone, National Academy of Sciences Presentation (PDF)
