Genetic Patenting Dialogue
1996-1997

This programmatic initiative sponsored a series of four dialogue meetings during 1996 and 1997 in which persons representing a wide range of religious communities, the genetics research community, the biotechnology industry, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, along with philosophers and ethicists, considered the appropriateness of patenting life forms and its ethical and religious implications. The project resulted in an edited volume entitled: Perspectives on Genetic Patenting: Religion, Science, and Industry in Dialogue.
