AAAS Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion

News & Events: Workshop

Behavioral Genetics
2001

DoSER is engaged in a three way partnership with the AAAS Program on Scientific Freedom, Responsibility and Law and the Hastings Center on Bioethics to evaluate scientific research relating to the influence of genes on human behavior and the implications of these findings for individual self-understanding and social norms. Participants in the project included scientists, philosophers, ethicists and scholars of religion. The project focused on three areas of research concerning human behavior: bipolar disorder, impulsivity and criminal behavior, and intelligence. The outcome of this project will be a volume of scholarly essays by the participants and educational materials for a broader public audience.
