Biography

Marc Bekoff is Professor of Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is a Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society and a former Guggenheim Fellow. He was the 2000 recipient of the Exemplar Award from the Animal Behavior Society for major long-term contributions to the field of animal behavior. He is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Jane Goodall Institute and with Jane co-founded the organization Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals/Citizens for Responsible Animal Behavior Studies in 2000. He is the author of Minding Animals: Awareness, Emotions, and Heart (Oxford, 2002) and The Smile of a Dolphin: Remarkable Accounts of Animal Emotions (Discovery Books, 2000); co-author with Jane Goodall of The Ten Trusts (HarperCollins, 2002); and editor with C. Allen and G. Burghardt of The Cognitive Animal, (MIT Press, 2002).
