Dr. George Ellis, Ph.D., is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the
University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he works on relativity theory
and cosmology. Ellis studied at Cambridge University, where he co-authored
the book, The Large Scale Structure of Space Time with Stephen
Hawking. Ellis has written over 200 technical papers in the area of cosmology.
Dr. Ellis has been involved in developmental and peace projects in South
Africa, including acting as the Chairman of the Quaker Service Fund and
the Quaker Peace Centre. He has been actively involved in science-religion
discussions. Ellis co-authored On The Moral Nature of the Universe:
Cosmology, Theology, and Ethics with Nancey Murphy. President Nelson
Mandela awarded him the Star of South Africa medal in 1999.
