Biography

Michael Meyer is the Senior Scientist for Astrobiology and the Program Scientist for the 2001 Mars Odyssey and the Mars Science Laboratory rover mission, Office of Space Science at NASA Headquarters. The Astrobiology Program, started in 1997 with Dr. Meyer as the Discipline Scientist, is dedicated to the study of the life in the universe. Astrobiology at NASA consists of 4 major elements: the Exobiology/Evolutionary Biology Program, the NASA Astrobiology Institute, the Astrobiology Science & Technology Instrument Development Program, and the Astrobiology Science & Technology for Exploring Planets. Dr. Meyer earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in oceanography from Texas A&M University (1981 and 1985) and his B.S. in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1974).
