Paul B. Thompson, Ph.D., holds the Joyce and Edward E. Brewer Chair
in Applied Ethics at Purdue University, where he is also Director of Purdue's
Center for Food Animal Productivity and Well-Being. He has written over
100 journal articles and book chapters on ethical issues associated with
risk, food and agriculture. As Director of Texas A&M University's
Center for Biotechnology Policy and Ethics from 1990 to 1997, he participated
in many of the early discussions and debates over genetic engineering
in agriculture. He served on the USDA Agricultural Biotechnology Research
Advisory Committee and the National Research Council Subcommittee on Ecological
Risks from Transgenic Crops. He is a founding member and former President
of the Agricultural, Food and Human Values Society.
