AAAS Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Seminar

Saturday, 23 June 2007
The Westin Crown Center
Kansas City, MO
Washington DC

Science, mathematics, and technology education are critical to maintaining our position in the global economy and for producing students who can make informed decisions in an increasingly technological world. Local school boards play a key role in determining how these subjects are taught but until now they have received only limited support from the scientific community. This seminar represents the first comprehensive effort by a scientific society to work directly with school boards on these issues. Staff from AAAS's Program of Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion, Project 2061, and Education and Human Resources joined with representatives from the National School Boards Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the International Technology Education Association, and Public Agenda, as well as approximately 80 board members and administrators from Kansas and Missouri, to explore the issues surrounding education in these key disciplines.
