Theology, Education, and Public Policy Workshops (TEPP)
12-13 January 2004
Gallaudet University, Washington , DC

These workshops brought individuals together to represent the theological, educational, and public policy dimensions of the work of each of their denominations. The purpose of the workshop was to consider how the scientific community could effectively help the denominations understand and respond to the Intelligent Design (ID) Movement’s efforts to undermine public K-12 science education. The workshop included briefings on the theological, historical, and philosophical background of the ID Movement. It also included scientific briefings on origin of life research, evolutionary biology, and the study of human evolution. Two break-out sessions were built into the workshop: one to allow interdenominational discussion among persons with comparable areas of responsibility (e.g., theology, education, public policy) and the second to allow strategy discussions within the denominational groups.
