Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world’s largest
federation of scientists and engineers, with nearly 300 affiliate organizations, and more than 140,000 members.

AAAS publishes Science, one of the most prestigious and frequently-cited multidisciplinary science journals in the world. The Association also undertakes program activities to advance the practice of science and engineering, to expand international scientific cooperation, to advance science education, and to improve understanding of policy issues grounded in science and technology.

The AAAS Research Competitiveness Service was initiated in 1996 under a grant from the National Science Foundation.
