Sylvain Piqueux
Program Associate, Research Competitiveness Program
Sylvain earned his Bachelor's degree in Geodynamics and his Master's degree in Geophysics from the University of Paris/Ecole Normale Supèrieure. In 2009, he earned his doctorate in Planetary Science from Arizona State University. Subsequently, he served as a post-doctoral researcher at ASU's Mars Space Flight Facility. His research used near-infrared, visible, and thermal-infrared data from several active NASA missions to characterize planetary surface properties. He has also designed and built several NASA-funded laboratory experiments to investigate the thermophysical properties of complex materials and developed numerical models of heat transfer for planetary regolith. His fieldwork activities have led him to Antarctica, multiple sites in the Southwestern U.S., the Alps, the Himalayas, and Eastern Europe.
Since joining RCP in January 2012, Sylvain has managed peer-review projects for multiple international and domestic grant funding agencies. In addition, he has reviewed and edited reports delivered to state science and technology offices.
