As Chair of the Committee on Human Rights of Mathematicians of the American Mathematical Society I wish to express our Committee's endorsement of the AAAS Board Statement, "The Universlaity of Science and Freedom in the Conduct of Science". We appreciate your initiative in this area.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express our strong support for the efforts of the AAAS through its Human Rights Committee in protecting the freedom of scientists and of science here and abroad.
